120 colors palette, 1st edition, 60 colors palette, america, australia, beauty, bh cosmetics, colors, edinburgh, excited, eyeshadows, lip gloss, long waited, make up, makeup, online, online shopping, package, parcel, shopping, united kingdom, united states

Guess what came in the mail today? GUESS GUESS!
It’s my BH Cosmetics Parcel! WOHOOO. I’m soo excited!

I got mine right on the 10th day of my order – I paid for the cheapest International shipping which would take 10-20 days. But mine came in the 10th day, maybe because I’m only in the UK so it doesn’t take as long as it would if I were to live in… Australia, perhaps?

Bh Cosmetics

I was so happy when my flatmate told me my BH Cosmetics parcel is here. Then I began to open it and saw this cute wrap. Okay, this might be an exaggeration because of my over-excitement. But I mean it! Isn’t it cute and creative. TEHEHEHE

Well, anyways, on to the fun part! I ordered the 120 color palette 1st edition and the 66 lop gloss color palette:

And… when I opened it I was like WOW. Here are some snapshots!

This is the 66 lip gloss palette:

IMG_0502

I haven’t got to try the gloss yet but I would make a special review! So WAIT UP!

Why I got this: because I’ve been in love with experimenting different colors and lipsticks and lip glosses cost a fortune! As a college student, of course, the one that would save me money is definitely the best option I have! So I don’t know if they are well pigmented or not but I guess it’s something that you could build up. I wish I would play with it when I got it today but it’s almost exams so my time is quite restricted. But hang in there, I promise you, I would do it soon!

Now this is what everyone has been talking about, the 120 color palette:

IMG_0508

I have been wanting to get this for AGES! I have one before which is not from BH Cosmetics. It’s just a random one I got online but I’ve read many reviews carefully and BH cosmetics seems to have a slightly more pigmented eyeshadows which is perfect! Because the ones I have are not too pigmented so it’s so hard to build up all the colors.

I’ve tried it a little on my finger and YES it was pigmented but same goes, I’ll give reviews and tutorials soon! Hang in there.

Now now, if you don’t know BH Cosmetics has 5 editions of the 120 palette, mine is the first one. Here is a sneak peek of the 5 palettes:

IMG_0505

I guess the first one has more variety of colors while the others are more concentrated to a certain hue. For example 5th is more towards pink and purple.

I chose the first one because I have always run to either: neutral, pink, or purple colors! E.g the palette I was talking about earlier is the neutral color ones, so no don’t worry, I’m not wasting my money on buying doubles!

Well, recently I have been in love with silvers, blue, and turquoise colors. I’ve been wanting to play around with them too! But I don’t have any and getting individual ones or small palette from other brands are definitely good but again, it’s pricey. So might as well get this where I can have all of the colors and also if you think the colors are not too pigmented. Invest in some color primers e.g; paint pots or eye pencils or cream shadows for the base. This way, it would pop the color even more. It is a good investment because even when I’m using my MAC, Make up Forever, or Urban Decay ones I would still use those bases too! So it’s versatile.

Anyways, for more information go to http://www.bhcosmetics.com

No, I am not sponsored by BH (I wish lol!) but I would give my honest opinions on the review and play around to give you all a tutorial! Just give me time. I have exams soon but will be done in 2 weeks so HANG IN THERE GUYS!

With Love,

Shannen

What they never tell you about first year of University

college, easy, edinburgh, enjoy, hard, high school, life, reading, summer school, univeristy, work

Coming to my first year to university. I can vividly remember people telling me how fun it will be, how many parties there will be, and that it is just the best time of your life.

Yes maybe it’s too early for me to judge, really. But honestly this is a more realistic point of view of going to being in a university. Perhaps, it may vary according to the university that you go to. But at least in my university and I believe few others too, the competition is quite high, and as a result this is how university is:

1) You will have hundreds of pages of reading: they always tell me that IB will be more relaxing than university. HA BIG JOKE. My business studies book that we use for one semester this year is as thick as my business studies HL book for two years. Isn’t that amazing? So get used to this. Reading and making your own notes! Because nobody will check your notes and nobody will check if you are listening or not. I find this really difficult to actually listen in lectures. haahha. But listening in lectures help to make your reading tasks less heavy! P.s: the material for my first semester exam is a textbook that is more or less similar to my material for exam in High School for 1-2 years.

2) There are more work than you think: Yes you don’t have those daily or weekly stupid homework. But you have essays and posters and other projects to write. Yes in IB you do write LOADS of essays. But honestly, it’s different. Your lecturer will not bother if you fully understand the topic or if they fully cover the topic. So imagine just about the amount of additional readings you will get?

3) Finding friends in university isn’t as easy as finding friends in school/summer school. I remember going into summer school last year, without knowing anyone. Fortunately, within a day, I was able to find many great friends. So, as I was heading to university, I thought to myself “don’t worry, it will just be like the summer school..” NO. That’s wrong. In lectures, nobody cares who the fuck sits besides you. Maybe in tutorials they do, but everyone is so focused and may already have their friends. So it is not that easy after all, huh?

I honestly could go on and on about this topic but I don’t want to scare you or anything.

Because despite all this negativity, I must be honest, I love how I am out of that high school bubble.

I have not met as many great people as I intend to but the ones I have met are ridiculously great. I find it amazing that we do not need to stay in our little “clique” or “bubble”. So we get to find many friends and nothing restricts us. No gossip, no rumors. Nobody cares about what others do, unless that is your significant others.

University has been challenging but is worth the effort, so really. Don’t worry about it 🙂
Enjoy your time before going to university though, but of course, maximise it once you are here!

Much love,

Shannen ♥

The First Daunting Gym Experience

best decision, daunting, edinburgh, experience, first, first experience, fitness, fitness first, gym, health, healthy, loving, motivation, muscle, muscular, nervous, scared, singapore, weight loss, women, women fitness

The other day, I went to the gym for the first time in Edinburgh *please cheer for me right here*! It then reminds me about my very first time going to a proper gym **when I say proper gym, I mean a fully equipped gym, not one from your condominium or something.

I remember I was only 16 when I first joined Fitness First in Singapore. I was quite young, I must be honest. But really, I think I was brave. I can speak for many women right here. I know many women associate gym with gaining muscles – which is not entirely true. But I remember breaking out of that bubble and as I told my friends, they would just give me weird looks. I have no regret with my decision of going to the gym. I love it so much.

Here is how it goes;

I remember walking in and feeling so scared. I had no idea where changing rooms are and I had too many insecurities running around my head. I am not sporty, I am so young, what am I doing in this place? I felt like running back, except I can’t. I walked and walked. Until I saw a group of women walking out of this room in the corner, then I thought “AH! Changing rooms!”. I walked in. I am so impressed. As I got changed, I hoped someone would talk to me, like I see in movies…. But nobody would. hmm, seems like they know each other already. Then at that point in time, I wished, I have a sporty friend.

Well then, I walked out. Trying to figure out how to use each machine… or more like.. Pretending like I know what I’m doing. Observing other people. What a daunting experience! Then, thankfully, I got 3 free sessions with a trainer. Which eases my whole worry because at least I only have to do what he tells me to.. and the best part is, he operates the machine for me. I couldn’t be more thankful for this.

I feel like going to the gym for the first time is daunting, though honestly, to me (at least) nothing ridiculous actually happened. But as you enter it and see how fit everyone is, it drops your motivation down.

But I’m telling you, many of you women associate gym with gaining muscle. Here is one handy truth for you. It’s not too scientific and it’s easy to remember:

First, it is not easy to be muscular, you may ask any of your muscular guy friends. You have to be in a very strict diet and consume extensive amount of extra protein (protein milk or shakes). Then also, us women, do not have much testosterones like men. This specific hormone is the one that makes muscles. So no need to worry, it takes an awful lot of time and effort to get it. I go to the gym quite often (2-3 times a week and lift a bit of weight too) and I am nowhere near those women who lift weight at the Olympics! :p

So, don’t worry, enroll yourself in a gym. With a friend or without a friend, go for it! I always go alone, I find myself more focused. This post is to encourage you all out there to go and live a healthy lifestyle. At first I wanted to go for weight loss but now I go for health reasons. Having low fat percentage is more important than small number on the scale (or weighing machine).

Don’t worry about feeling scared to enter it. I bet everyone else has felt the same. I am so confident with going to the gym now but this is my story. I was scared too but I got over it and it is probably one of the best decisions ever!

Best of luck girlies.

[MYTH]: “I have a sensitive skin so I don’t put on foundation”

brush cleanser, clarisonic, cleanser, edinburgh, face scrub, foundation, how to, makeup, makeup forever, primer, scrub, sensitive, sensitive skin, skin, united kingdom

Calling all the girls! I’m pretty sure that either you or at least ONE of your friends have told you: “I have a sensitive skin so I don’t put on foundation… it will trigger pimples”. I know more than 5 people who have told me that and sad to say, I once thought the same.

But that is just a MYTH. Let me tell you ways to be able to apply foundation on your face without ‘ruining’ your skin.

1) Apply Primer beforehand: I couldn’t stress this enough. Primer is the KEY. Every time you watch those makeup gurus tell you about primer, they always say: it helps your makeup stick longer. Which is true and I couldn’t agree more. But they seem to forget to mention the most important thing, which is that primer prevents makeup to go into your pores. It closes your pores hence prevents zits/pimples! My favorite primer is MAKE UP FOREVER HD PRIMER in no.5 because I have uneven redness in my skin. But any primer would do, though I do suggest you to take this as your ‘investment’ and invest more in primer than foundation. Hence, getting a more expensive but good primer would let you go off with a slightly cheaper foundation. By ‘good’ primer, I mean one that suits your skin, you can ask for a free tester first. Try it for at least 2 weeks and if it suits you then stick to it! Keep in mind though that expensive doesn’t always mean that it will suit your skin.

2) Choose a foundation that is suitable for you: Again, the same theory applies to the foundation. The price does not define the quality. Test it first. I have a few favorite ones, one of which I have just started loving and I will review that soon! But of course my all time favorite goes to MAKE UP FOREVER HD FOUNDATION.

3) Wash your face every night: Some girls get so lazy after crazy tiring nights (I do too, but please spare 5-10 minutes to properly wash your face!). So I would suggest first by using a special eye make up remover especially for your mascara because I find a normal face wash doesn’t take off all of my mascara. Then I would use facial wipes (or baby wipes – non alcohol and fragrant ones)! Then wash your face using daily scrub (for night only) or Clarisonic (night only too). I love love the Clarisonic and shall review that soon. That is my daily routine.

4) Deep cleanse your face once in a week/two weeks: by deep cleansing I would say use a good scrub. Any scrub would do. I use one from Lancome just because I happen to bought one a while ago. Use whatever you have but make sure it’s not a daily one! Because you need to deep cleanse it! Using Clarisonic is not enough!

5) Clean your brushes: this is a crucial step that a lot of people seem to always forget or ‘pretend to forget’. It is a pain to clean your brushes especially when you are in a hurry! So my suggestion, get one of those brush cleanser say from MAC or MAKE UP FOREVER or anything. Then every once in two/three weeks, at most a month, deep cleanse it using baby shampoo. This is important because a normal brush cleanser does not clean your brush properly. Similarly like our face, we need to deep clean it once in a while.

I’m not even kidding. I have a very sensitive skin whether it is for face or my whole body! But I follow these 5 simple steps and my skin is fine. No joke.

All the best!

Love,

Shannen ♥
