The Universe & Its’ Wonders

A lot of the time, I fail to understand the way things work in this universe.

A lot of the time, I fail to see the ‘simple logic’ behind things in this universe.

But today finally, I think the universe is wonderful. Not because everything is perfect but because it has its’ wonders and it works its’ magic.

The universe is wonderful. So is God.

Lately, I’ve been seeing the pattern. Pattern of how things work in this universe.

I’m beginning to think it’s wonderful. I see, that every single time I’m beginning to soar, I always find something that would keep me back down. Not back down totally, but, more like ‘decreasing the speed’.

I used to think that it is the ‘unjust’ part of life. Perhaps, you should begin to look at it in a positive point of view.

I realised, it is not to hinder me from soaring…… But it’s to keep me down to earth. It does not let me soar too fast nor too far. In fact, It teaches me the value of my work, the value of the results I received.

The universe is wonderful and yet we don’t appreciate it enough.

What they never tell you about first year of University

Coming to my first year to university. I can vividly remember people telling me how fun it will be, how many parties there will be, and that it is just the best time of your life.

Yes maybe it’s too early for me to judge, really. But honestly this is a more realistic point of view of going to being in a university. Perhaps, it may vary according to the university that you go to. But at least in my university and I believe few others too, the competition is quite high, and as a result this is how university is:

1) You will have hundreds of pages of reading: they always tell me that IB will be more relaxing than university. HA BIG JOKE. My business studies book that we use for one semester this year is as thick as my business studies HL book for two years. Isn’t that amazing? So get used to this. Reading and making your own notes! Because nobody will check your notes and nobody will check if you are listening or not. I find this really difficult to actually listen in lectures. haahha. But listening in lectures help to make your reading tasks less heavy! P.s: the material for my first semester exam is a textbook that is more or less similar to my material for exam in High School for 1-2 years.

2) There are more work than you think: Yes you don’t have those daily or weekly stupid homework. But you have essays and posters and other projects to write. Yes in IB you do write LOADS of essays. But honestly, it’s different. Your lecturer will not bother if you fully understand the topic or if they fully cover the topic. So imagine just about the amount of additional readings you will get?

3) Finding friends in university isn’t as easy as finding friends in school/summer school. I remember going into summer school last year, without knowing anyone. Fortunately, within a day, I was able to find many great friends. So, as I was heading to university, I thought to myself “don’t worry, it will just be like the summer school..” NO. That’s wrong. In lectures, nobody cares who the fuck sits besides you. Maybe in tutorials they do, but everyone is so focused and may already have their friends. So it is not that easy after all, huh?

I honestly could go on and on about this topic but I don’t want to scare you or anything.

Because despite all this negativity, I must be honest, I love how I am out of that high school bubble.

I have not met as many great people as I intend to but the ones I have met are ridiculously great. I find it amazing that we do not need to stay in our little “clique” or “bubble”. So we get to find many friends and nothing restricts us. No gossip, no rumors. Nobody cares about what others do, unless that is your significant others.

University has been challenging but is worth the effort, so really. Don’t worry about it 🙂
Enjoy your time before going to university though, but of course, maximise it once you are here!

Much love,

Shannen ♥

Dear you, you know who you are,

You are an absolutely good man with a good heart. You bring light in my darker days, you balance my life.

Dear you, you are a good person,

A man who puts a lot of pressure on yourself… to please the people you care about.

Dear you, I hate seeing you in a bad mood,

But you know, those pressure put you in terrible mood (most of the time).

Dear you, learn to be easy on yourself,

Everyone who cares about you are already so proud of where you are standing right now. If you’re not, please take a moment, look back, look how far you’ve gone. Look how much you have achieved.

Dear you, I know you expect a lot from yourself,

But remember, nothing comes in a package. You have to earn small things first… and til’ now, you’ve earned a lot.

Dear you, this post does not show my sympathy or empathy to you. In fact, it’s to remind you of how good you are and you have been. To let you know that you have achieved so much in your life and I’m proud with where you stand. It’s to let you know that you can aim high but don’t expect too high. Do not expect higher than what you can achieve in this point in time. To let you know that you are doing very well right now. I am very proud of you and I know your parents are too.

Dear you, please for once, enjoy your life like how you should. Life can be enjoyed in many different way. You can enjoy your life with the simplest things possible. A key to that, is to always reflect back every now and then, and be grateful with what you have know.

Life is not bad unless you think it is. See it the positive way. Like your brother right here:

Even this little cute panda, who probably has to do the same things every day for his life, know how to have fun and enjoy his life….. while he has it 🙂

Lastly, remember, I’m always here for you.

I got your back.

Just like these two pandas who are there for each other 🙂

You are a hard-working person and I hope you can keep up with that. You can still achieve more in your life, so don’t be disheartened that you are not where you wish you would be standing. Because sooner or later, you’ll be better than you think.

Mucho love,

Shannen ♥

Defining The IB

ib, life, opinion

The International Baccalaureate is a common topic for students who are in the programme, for instance, me. If you don’t know what IB is then feel free to click here. The IB is a programme which is for high school students (similar to A-levels, AP, etc) but we do receive a diploma in the end of the course. Therefore, it is slightly different and yet, I believe, is demanding.

The “#iblife” as we, tweeties (I guess that’s the word for twitter users) call it. Every night, I would see a tweet on my timeline about how IB is “killing” them. Oh, such melodramatic adjectives I see daily. To be honest with you, the subjects I’m taking ain’t no easy subjects.

However, I feel like there are some exaggeration in “defining the IB life”. I must agree though it is challenging and demanding. However, I feel like IB programme is definitely a great programme. You learn so many new things in so many different ways. You build skills and knowledge, not just by writing tests but by writing your Extended Essay, TOK essays, and so on.

Well, this post is just my opinions but I just feel that we all need to chill down and know that we know have more “free time” than we think.

Good luck with your IB (or any academic) related things (:

With love,

Shannen ♥
